Some 6,000 people in the Orisunmibare community in Lagos State will be displaced soon after the state government issued a 10-day demolition notice. Residents of Orisunmibare community have stated they do not know why the state government issued the eviction notice, urging Nigerians to appeal to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, requesting that the anti-people policies be reversed. “Security reasons are usually named as the rationale behind these evictions. The big question is; how does rendering 6,000 households with women and children homeless a way to resolve a security situation? “Our Governor is a forthright man, elected by people of Lagos State whose majority population are poor people; living in precarious housing. ALSO READ: Lagos Laif Music: DJ PowerPlay ft TMP Offisial – Location “We can longer afford to allow repetition of these cruel and inhuman episodes of rendering our people homeless; the spiral effect is too costly.” The Lagos government's decision on Orisunmibare comes only months after the state government demolished Monkey Village, a rural village in Lagos's Opebi neighborhood, displacing hundreds of people. Hundreds of people were also displaced in August 2017 when the state government raided the Iwaya axis in the Lagos-Mainland Local Government, demolishing many constructions and returning the land to its original owners. Structures in Iwaya were removed just 48 hours after the lifeless body of a kid with her throat cut was discovered in a shrine near where the razed buildings were erected.
