The Lagos State Government has organized the Second Edition of the Transformational Leadership Training Programme with the theme “Engaging Young People in Community Development” in order to ensure that the youths of Lagos State are well equipped with the skills and knowledge required for community development.
Mr. Olusegun Dawodu, Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, said in his welcome address at the event held on Tuesday at Ikeja Youth Centre that the training is focused on building the capacity of young leaders to become better leaders and aligning the State Government’s policy thrust with that of the various groups in order to propel the Greater Lagos vision.
“This Transformational Leadership Training is one of the several initiatives of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu aimed at ensuring that the Youths of Lagos are not just equipped but given the necessary support that will enable them to compete with their peers globally. The first edition availed youths that proved themselves exceptional and outstanding with the opportunity to be part of Lagos-Spain Youth Exchange programmes, tagged “New Kind of Leadership” for further exposure and experience.”

The Commissioner encouraged the participants to share what they had learned with others in their communities and explained that the purpose of the program was to expose Youth Leaders from various voluntary youth organizations to extend their leadership beyond their groups and establish themselves by taking on responsibilities in Community Development Associations (CDAs) in their various communities.
Mr. Tunde Oyelowo, the facilitator, took the participants on “Leadership Values and Role Models” and “Personal Leadership and Self Awareness” in his presentation, in which he made participants see the characteristics of a true leader as well as how to acquire values that can turn them into effective leaders in all spheres of life.
According to Dr. Jemilade Longe, a Consultant to the Ministry on Youth Programme, the Transformational Leadership Training Programme was one of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-initiatives Olu’s to meaningfully engage youths in programs that would help them channel their energies toward positive and productive ends.
The week-long leadership training program is designed to span the three Senatorial Districts, with experienced facilitators utilizing Videos, Group Work, Case Studies, Personal Reflections, Slide Presentations, and Life Applications to provide participants with a life-changing learning experience.
